The DeWayne B. Mitchell, III. Memorial Scholarship
Supporting students who embody leadership, perseverance, academic excellence, and community spirit.
About the Scholarship
The DeWayne B. Mitchell, III. Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor the life, legacy, and values of DeWayne B. Mitchell, III., whose commitment to education, community service, leadership, and sports continues to inspire those who knew him.
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students who demonstrate academic excellence, service to others, resilience, perseverance, and a passion for sports.
Honoring DeWayne’s Life & Legacy
At the age of 16, DeWayne B. Mitchell III left home to attend a community dance; however, that was the last time his family saw him alive. The shooter came to the dance with other intentions by beginning an argument with other attendees outside of the facility. DeWayne was killed instantly when a bullet entered through his left lower backside, traveled through his body, and ruptured his heart.
He was well known in the community as an avid, all-around sports fanatic. His family was often seen during football, basketball, and baseball seasons cheering DeWayne on in whichever sport he played. To continue honoring his legacy, we offer this scholarship as a token of your efforts.
